Social Studies

Our Social Studies curriculum focuses on learning about communities.  Included in each unit are special skill lessons focusing on map skills, reading skills, graphing skills, and citizenship skills.  Each one of our units can be related to our community through many activities and discussions. 

Unit 1    Learning About Communities

In this unit, we will discuss what makes a community.  We will also compare our community, Bellevue to another community. 

Unit 2    Citizenship & Government

Throughout this unit we will learn how our government works.  We will discuss the different levels of government from our local government to our national government.  This unit will also assist us in identifying patriotic symbols.

Unit 3    Communities Are Everywhere

Landforms and climates for different places can affect the type of work people do.  Throughout this unit, we will look at this and the changes that people make to the land. 

Unit 4    Many Kinds of People

Throughout this unit, students will learn about American heroes and American heritage.  They will also look at the different ways people express their culture though their  holiday customs and traditions.

Unit 5    Communities Over Time

Communities change and to explore this, we will look at different ways we can find out about the history of our community and nation.  We will also look at how America's communities have changed over time.

Unit 6    People Working in a Community

Learning how people earn and save money is a skill that we will focus on in this unit.  This unit is full of interesting information about inventors and their inventions and how businesses work.
